WEEK 1 - FENIMORE STUDIO - 169 FENIMORE STREET

INSTRUMENT LAB: REBEL SQUEEZEBOX!

Join us for a hands on accordion workshop and movement session in a real music studio led by The Nightingale Fam founder and Broadway accordionist Mary Knapp. We will learn about genres of accordion music from all over the world and their accompanying dances vis a vis the stories of women accordion players. Students will get hands on time with different types of accordions and experiment with movement and dance in each genre. We will conclude with a group jam session in which students are welcome to try other instruments in the studio.

WEEK 2 - CONCERT GROVE PAVILION - PROSPECT PARK

JEDI TRAINING CAMP!

Let's get acquainted with our primary instrument, the body, in a one of a kind movement & mindfulness journey led by theatermaker, choreographer and MC Akim Funk Buddha with support from TNF founder Mary Knapp. Children will practice core balance, spatial awareness, teamwork and emotional intelligence through obstacle courses and other activities that connect creative play with executive functioning skills - from dodging swinging rice bags to building towers to passing rhythm with a rain stick and other storied objects.
